Diet
Yes, it’s true– diet can have an impact on your health and your mental wellbeing. It’s not a secret that diet can change mental wellbeing. A classic example of this is chocolate which elevates your mood when you consume it. Afterwards, though, you may also experience a low, not unlike when you come down from a drug high. That’s why you should work to control the level of sugary sweets in your diet as much as possible. In contrast, fruit and veg can actually be beneficial to your diet and provide you with the support for good mental health that you need as well.
Socialization
Socialization, or a lack of it, can have a severe impact on mental health. Socializing is something that we need in life. If you don’t socialize or have people to interact with you are more likely to develop mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. An example of this would be people who have impaired hearing. Individuals who have impaired hearing or less likely to be able to socialize and converse on the same level as others. This is particularly true if their condition has not been treated. Elderly individuals with hearing loss are more likely to experience problems with both depression and even dementia.
That’s why if you are depressed, you should try and socialize more. Go out, meet new people, interact and get some fresh air. Perhaps walk around a park and talk to the people who you meet. Get involved in social activities and try to learn new skills while talking to fresh people. Expand your social groups, perhaps by exercising. Exercising, fitness and going to the gym are great ways to improve your levels of socialization and ensure that you are regularly interacting with others.
Be aware that some people do unintentionally display social cues that they have no interest in interacting or engaging with others. An example would be listening to music with headphones in while out in public. Instead, you do need to make sure that you are open to others.
Hormones
This is perhaps the weirdest one on the list because it’s not one that you might expect. But actually, an imbalance in your level of hormones can have severe impacts on your mental health. It’s indeed possible that it triggers a spout of depression, anxiety, fatigue and various other side effects. In fact, a number of common issues both mental and indeed physical can commonly be explained due to a hormone imbalance. Can it be fixed? There are a wide variety of treatment options for this type of issue that can get your body and your mind back on the right track. Be aware that some hormone imbalances are caused by natural issues. For instance, you might find that you experience this type of imbalance as you pass through puberty. Or, more likely, as your child passes through puberty. Regardless, it’s important to be aware of this possibility and speak to your doctor.
There are actually a massive variety of signs and symptoms for a hormone imbalance. It’s near impossible to provide you with a set list that you should get checked out. So instead, just make sure that you do think about looking into any changes to your body or your mental health that have lasted for more than a couple weeks.
