Monday.
I love Monday.
I know, I’m weird. But think about it– brand new week, fresh start, no mistakes yet. It’s like New Year’s every seven days! And at my house, it’s also clean sheet day. There ain’t nothin’ Monday can throw at me that can’t be salved with the knowledge that at the end of the day, I’ll slip in between freshly laundered bed linens.
I’m gonna need those clean sheets tomorrow night. This week marks the end of what I had hoped would be a blessed and lengthy life as a homeschooling mom. My tweedles are heading to public school beginning Wednesday, and it’s a huge adjustment for all of us. This means changes in routines and habits, which throws up big warning signs for this healthy lifestyle we’re trying to adopt. This new life as a single working mom has been overwhelming for me. I can’t use the drive-thru as my default meal plan. So Monday is going involve some intense planning and preparing. I’ve already been working up a game plan, and have a series of blogs planned to share with you what I’m learning and how I’m approaching this. Change is good. Right?
I’m also making some changes to my fitness this week. Today I had to go in and cancel my YMCA membership. I just can’t justify the expense for right now. I’ll still have a month to use it before it’s officially void, so I’ll take full advantage of that. I did check out another gym in the area, but I can’t afford that one, either. So, this is just adding another challenge that I get to overcome. I know plenty of y’all also can’t afford a gym membership, so we’re gonna have to get creative, right? We can do this! And that’ll just give me lots of more learning opportunities that I can share with you.
That’s a lot of change to pile into one week! I’m trying to remember my goal here: health. Physical health, yes. But I can’t overlook the mental health aspect, either. In the midst of the stress of all this change (with the exception of the changed sheets– that’s lovely, not stressful), I need to take time out for myself, and fitness is the best way to do that.
I love Mondays. It’s all about perspective– that whole glass half full/half empty thing. You can look at Monday with dread and trepidation, and you’ll probably find that you were right to adopt a pessimistic perspective. Or you can embrace the opportunity to get back on track, and you’ll probably find that you do better than you thought you would. And it’s okay to keep doing that EVERY Monday! Set some little goals for yourself, and get started! Stop beating yourself up over past slip-ups, and look forward, toward the NEXT opportunity to make a better choice.
Vive la Monday!
